What to Look At When Improving SEO Ranking

Now that your new (or first) website is up in running, what is left? Everyone should just know you are on the web, right? Unfortunately, this is not the case. After a website is built, there is still a lot of work to be done to have the investment pay off to the fullest. Search engine optimization (SEO) is your next step. Whether you are doing it internally or sourcing the work to South Jersey marketing companies, here are five major ways to improve your site’s overall rankings.

Content Creation
The number one factor in determining your search engine page rankings is quality onsite and offsite content. Quality content can come in many forms. Onsite and offsite web content should include content that shows off your industry knowledge and what your firm has to offer.

On top of rich content, your offsite and onsite content should contain keywords that your organization strives to rank for. These keywords should be placed within the content and hyperlinked to pages that pertain to it on your very own website. External links should be used as well to authoritative and trustworthy sites to boost your content. Consider using specific design tags to emphasize keywords such as italics, bold, and headings. Be sure to not overdo it because that can dock your ranking significantly.

Metadata
When creating your website or venturing into the backend for the first time, you may notice different spots on pages where you can enter metadata such as title tags, meta descriptions, and keyword metadata. If you don’t input specific verbiage in these bins, your CMS software will automatically fill them. Automatically filling the bins is better than nothing, but it does hurt your rankings. All these bins should be filled out and include keywords that pertain to the keywords in the content material on the page. Title tags and meta descriptions should be kept under their respective limits as well.

Alt Tags
Another commonly missed search engine optimization tip is filling out your alt tags. Alt tags are attached to each image used on your site. These alt tags give your image a unique label that identifies across your site for coding purposes. All alt tags should be filled out and include keywords that are relevant to the picture. Alt tags are not automatically filled if you do not enter text. Please check out each picture on your site to make sure alt tags are included.

Link Worthy Site
When you do use links on your website whether they are internal or external, be sure they go to authoritative sources. A simple “click here” link can dock your search engine rankings rather than a downloadable PDF with a proper title. Links are extremely important for search engines to scan over when they scrub the internet for ranking updates.

I hope this helps!
